I am not very good at baking. I get by with the pre-made cake box mixes, and can barely bake a cookie without burning them or over baking them. Every time I need cupcakes and cookies, I head for the local grocery story. This being so, I think it’s pretty funny that I can sit here and make a soap cupcake and cake, and they look pretty edible!
During this time of the year, as I get ready for the upcoming holiday craft shows, I try to make something a little different from just your regular bar of soap. Something that will grab the attention of shoppers and have them gravitate to my booth. I am not much of a sales person. I can just stand there and stare at people, while raking my brain trying to figure out what to say, making something out of the ordinary tends to break the ice.
Last year I made a soap gingerbread house. This year I am concentrating on soap desserts, cupcakes and cake!
Here are a couple of the soap cupcakes I recently made
any my favorite …Honeybee!
I also got a little ambitious and decided to make a soap cupcake. Which was a little more challenging than I originally thought. I ended up making the base of the cake 2 days prior to piping. While timing the right time to start piping can sometimes be tricky, I am usually able to manage it well with the cupcakes. I think what I did not realize is with the cupcakes I only have to worry about the top and not about the sides. When I started to pipe my cake on the sides, the mixture was too soft and started to slowly crawl down the sides! It took me a couple of tries and some scraping to finally have it firm enough to hold. Needless to say that I had a pretty good mess going on my work table.
But in the end, you will see my final results. Not bad!
To cover some of the gaps I decided to throw in some soap berries, and it made it all the more pretty. I also added some glitter…tons of glitter!
I used Rainbow Sherbet fragrance oil from Nature’s Garden, and it smells pretty yummy!!!
I am hoping to be able to make a lavender cake as well. That’s if I don’t run out of time. Somehow I am finding myself on a mountain of soap that needs to be packaged and labeled before the first show. Should be fun!
Thanks for checking out my blog!!!
