Getting ready for the second week of Amy’s soap challenge 2013, I was trying to figure out how to tackle it: Elemental Swirl
Check out her Blog page for the second week challenge:
I honestly have never done or tried to do this type of technique. I was having trouble trying to wrap my head around this and figuring out what I was going to do. I decided to take to the Internet for some inspiration. I sort of had an idea of what colors I wanted to use…and what I found came mighty close to what I was envisioning.
Here are the colors, A mixture of Micas, Oxides and Ultramarines:
Here was my inspiration:
Gathering my colors, my oils and lye water ready I got to work!
Everything was going grand. I actually was enjoying the swirl in the pot technique. I was able to pour the first color on the bottom, which was the cool colors and then sprinkle with Cocoa Powder to create my line.
Then I started to pour the second layer and I was doing OK until I got a little heavy handed and started to pour too fast! Next think I knew it was like a wave of soap going side ways! Taking my Cocoa Powder Line with it! I could not believe it…It was actually a little shocking to see.
At that point I figured that I would just finish it and hope that at least half of it came out OK.
Here is a picture of the second layer. I really liked the color combinations 🙂
Here is a picture of how the top came out…looking back now I wish I had just left it with the warm colors. The cool colors on top just gave a weird look to the bars after.
Here are the final results once I was able to cut it…this is the side that was OK and I was doing pretty good.
Now here is the side that got away from me…The line disappeared and ended up pushed up to the side 🙁
