Well…did you find me? I hope you did! Welcome to my new Home!!!
If you are new to my blog “Welcome and thanks for stopping by”!!!
About two weeks ago I got it in my head that I was ready to change my blog from Blogger to WordPress. Now there is really nothing wrong with Blogger, it’s actually really nice and being new to blogging worked really well for me. I was also interested in obtaining my own domain with the name of my blog and company. I have been putting it off, but that certainly ended a month ago when I came across a name that was pretty similar to mine! I panicked and decided it was time to breakdown and purchase my domain before someone else beat me to it.
Once I had my domain I sat on it for some time, until one evening in an email conversation with Cee Gee from Oil and Butter Blog I shared that I was thinking of doing this and before you know it by the end of the evening she had me convince to take the plunge. Now being the go getter that I am, I rushed into it right away. The following morning I decided to purchase my Website, then realised within 5 minutes that I did not need a Website but instead needed to purchase a Hosting Plan. I spend the most of my Saturday morning with customer service trying to obtain a credit of the Website purchase and trying to have them explain to me why I only needed a Hosting Plan vs a Website Plan. I think I got transferred about 5 times and each time with a 20 minute wait.
Once I was able to obtain a confirmation for credit I took my money to a different Web Hosting Company and purchased the plan there. Little did I know that this is actually recommended! That it’s not such a good idea to purchase your domain and hosting plan from the same company. That if ever the company has a problem with your site or the company goes down or something, you can still take your domain name to another hosting site and you will be up and running in no time. So that worked out.
Well my adventure certainly did not end there. I sat at my desk for a full hour trying to figure out how to log into my hosting site! The directions that were suppose to arrive in my inbox after purchase were delayed, and I was not about to wait. I figured out how to break in, found my way through downloading WordPress to my site and before you know it I was ready to start working on my template…and I had no clue had to do it.
I managed to figure out how to download a couple of basic templates to build from and managed to download a really bad one, which thought me my first big lesson when downloading Plugins in WordPress. Be careful what you download!
I activated the template before looking at a preview and before you know it I had locked myself out of my site, and I mean REALLY LOCKED MYSELF OUT! I tried logging back in to the Admin page and could not do it. I went to the WordPress site and found out that there is no support center! I was pulling my hair out! So ready to start crying. It was at that point that my husband thought it may be a good idea for him to take the kids to the park. So they left me to my misery while I frantically read the topics in the WordPress Forums hoping to find an answer.
I am no Techi…I find my way around softwares and computer most of the time by trial and error. A lot of the stuff that I was reading made no sense whatsoever to me…I was lost. Then I found a thread where it directed you to the folders within your hosting site.
I logged into my hosting account and somehow I made it into the folders… found the bad template… said a couple of prayers and hit delete… I refreshed the site and it worked!!!
Now there is more to this story, but this post is pretty long as it is…so in my next post I will describe the experience of building the template and setting up my site to transfer all my blogs.
NOW…. I am also here to talk about soap!
Today I give you my latest – Aloe and Cucumber! Made with full Goats Milk and Aloe Vera Juice. This is one of the first fragrances I soaped with when I started soaping. It’s such a crisp, clean fragrance. It behaves really well and I happily sold out every bar that I made. That was about three years ago!
I have now come to realize that I am addicted to purchasing fragrances and I have a lot more than I can do anything with. But yet you still find me browsing the fragrance catalog looking for more 🙂
Here is my Aloe and Cucumber:
I really like how the Drop Swirl came out. I used three different kinds of Green Micas 🙂
So tell me what you think of my new home. I am welcoming suggestions and ideas. It’s still pretty much a work and progress and you will probably see more changes in the coming days!
Thanks for checking out my blog!!!
